SMART kapp

This article will explain how to share SMART kapp whiteboard lecture notes with students in their classroom and as a link on Moodle. SMART kapp is a digital whiteboard that allows you to save and share notes as they unfold in the lecture room. You can:

  • Create snapshots and share them
  • Create a permanent link and add the link to a Moodle page

Teaching with SMART kapp

Install the SMART kapp application

  1. Open your devices app store e.g. Google play or the iOS app store
  2. Search for SMART kapp and install it

Connect/Pair your device to the whiteboard

  1. Open the SMART kapp application
  2. Scan the QR code on the whiteboard, align the code in the window of the application as directed.
  3. The devices will connect and you will see the information from the whiteboard on your device in real time

Take a snapshot of the whiteboard during a lesson

Click the camera icon on the whiteboard or your mobile device

 

Create a SMART kapp link

Providing a static link to students will allow the class to view the whiteboard contents on their mobile devices in real time. This link will stop working when the session has ended.

  1. Open the SMART kapp application
  2. Select the menu option in the top right corner, then select Settings 
  3. Select sharing then static link

Exporting and sharing

The lecture notes will be saved on your SMART kapp mobile app. You can export these as a PDF and share these to Moodle for posterity. Use Moodle to share the live Static link following the instructions below.

  1. Login to Moodle and locate the course site
  2. Click On next to Editing is in the top right hand corner of the window
  3. Edit a Topic Name e.g. to Whiteboard link
  4. Click on Add an activity or resource. Select Label and then Add
  5. Enter the URL Static Link address in the label text
  6. Click Save and return to course

 

Opening a link in Moodle

  1. Your student will see your shared link in Moodle. This link will be available when the session is active.
  2. Students will see any snapshot created by the lecturer on the left hand side of the screen
  3. Select the thumbnail image to view the snapshot

 

Downloading notes

  1. Select the snapshot
  2. Select the download button
  3. Choose PDF or Image
