This article will go through the procedure of importing and backing up your bookmarks in Windows 10.  This will be useful if your device is being re-imaged or you are using multiple devices.   

Exporting Bookmarks in Internet Explorer 11

1 Open Internet Explorer and select the Favourite Button which is in the top-right corner of the screen.

 

2 From the "Add to favourites" dropdown menu select "Import and Export".

 

 3 In the "Import/Export" Settings dialogue box, Select "Export to File", then select "Next".

 

4 Select the checkbox next to  "Favourites", then select "Next".

 

5 The default folder should not need changing, Select "Next".

 

6 Select "Browse".

 

7 It is important that you save your bookmarks to a networked drive, this is will ensure you will have access to the file after your workstation has been upgraded to Windows 10. Navigate to your N Drive and select "Save". Note the file name is  "bookmark.htm".

8 Select "Export".

 

9 Select "Finish".  Your bookmarks will have been saved in your N Drive as "bookmarks.htm". You can use this file to import your bookmarks. 

 

 

 Importing Bookmarks into MS Edge

 1 Open the MS Edge browser, select the Hub icon, which is the star in the top-right corner of the screen.

 

 2 Select "Import Favourites".  If the Import screen does not display, select Settings to show the screen.

 

 3 File Explorer will be displayed, navigate to the file you have saved on your N Drive.

 6 A message will appear "All done! View Imported Favourites".

 

 7 Click on "View imported favourites" to view your bookmarks.  To close the pane click on the Hub icon.

3 Select the checkbox next to "Favourites, and select "Next"

 

4 Select "Browse" and navigate to the N Drive and select the file "bookmarks.htm". Select "Next"

 

5  The folder structure should not need changing. Select "Import".

 

 7    Select "Finish".
