Opening the Start Menu

  1. Select the start icon which is located at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

  2. The Start Menu will appear.

    The Start Menu consists of three sections:

    • The left column is the Start Menu. The start menu contains icons which provides hortcuts to account settings, PC settings, power and other customisable folders.
    • The middle column contains a list of all applications and programs
    • The right column contains the tile pane. Tiles provide quick access to favourite programs and applications

    These instruction will show how to customise the Start Menu and the Tiles Pane.

Customising Start Menu

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. >
  3. Select the settings icon.

  4. The Windows Setting dialogue box will appear, select "Personalisation".

  5. Select "Start" from the left-hand column.

  6. Select "Choose which folders you want to appear on Start".

  7. A list of options will appear. Toggle the folders you would like to appear on the Start Menu.

  8. Close the Settings dialogue box by selecting the X in the top right-hand corner.
  9. Open the Start Menu to view the changes you have made.

Customising Tiles

The Tile Pane is an area where you can quickly select favourite programs and applications.

Increasing the size of the Tile Pane

  1. You may want to increase the size of the Tile Pane so you can view more tiles.
  2. 1 Hover over the top border of the Tile Pane until a double-headed arrow appears, click and drag the border upwards to increase the height.
  3. 2 Hover over the right border of the Tile Pane until a double-headed arrow appears, click and drag the border to the right to increase the width.

Adding a Tile

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Locate the program in the All programs and applications list (the middle column of the Start Menu).
  3. Right click on the program / application, a context menu will appear. At the top is an option to Pin to Start, select this option.

  4. A tile for the program you selected will then appear in the Tile Section.

Resizing a Tile

  1. Right click on a tile, a context menu will appear,select resize.
  2. Choose from the options presented.

Moving a Tile

  1. Select a tile.
  2. Click and drag to the desired location in the Tile Pane.

Creating a Folder

  1. Folders can be used to organise programs and applications in the Tile Pane.
  2. Drag a tile over another tile to create a folder.
  3. The program tiles will then be displayed in a folder.
  4. Select the folder to view it's contents.
  5. Select the upward arrow to close the folder.

Creating Groups

Groups can be used to organise programs, applications and folders in the Tile Pane

  1. To make a new group drag an existing tile downwards until you see a line appear above the tile.

  2. Hover over the tile, a text field will appear. Click in the field and type a name for the group.

  3. Drag other tiles into the group as required.
  4. To move the group, click and drag the name of group to the desired location in the Tile Pane.
