This article provides details about what happens on the day Graduation 2018.

What happens if I’m held up and may arrive late?

Gowning and ticket collection closes 30 minutes before the start of each ceremony. If you believe that you are not going to be able to arrive to meet this deadline you must contact the Information Desk on +44(0)23 9284 5319 who will advise on your options.

If you arrive late it may not be possible to get you into your ceremony, particularly if the ceremony has started. We would, however, try to offer acceptable alternatives.

What do I wear under my gown?

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and as such it is expected that you will dress accordingly. Jeans, tee shirts and training shoes are NOT acceptable.

If you come to collect your gown and are inappropriately attired you will be asked to find more appropriate clothing before you will be allowed to don your academic dress.

Will there be bag searches?

Random bag searches may take place for security reasons at all venues in use during graduation. It is recommended that no large bags are taken into either the Guildhall or other venues in use for graduation.

If you see anything suspicious or gives cause for concern, please inform a member of the Graduation Team or Security at any venue.

In the event of an emergency, please follow all instructions on the day from Security, venue staff or Emergency Services personnel.

Where is the ceremony held?

The ceremony is held in the main auditorium of the Portsmouth Guildhall.

There is a café on site should you wish to arrive early and grab a drink. There are toilet facilities in the basement and also on the first floor.

There are lift facilities to all floors.

Students are seated on the ground floor. Guests are seated on the ground and first floors.

Where do I have my photographs taken?

Official studio photography is taken in St Paul’s Sports Hall, which can be accessed from the main entrance in St Paul’s Road.

For your safety we have restricted parking in the areas around St Paul’s Sports Hall.

Where do I collect my gown?

You may collect your gown at Spinnaker Sports Hall. If you have guests with you they should remain in the Nuffield Courtyard area whilst you collect your tickets and your gown, etc. from the sports hall.

Where do I collect my tickets?

You may collect your guest tickets and your identifying wristband from Spinnaker Sports Hall. If you have guests with you they should remain in the Nuffield Courtyard area whilst you collect your tickets and your gown, etc. from the sports hall.

Please ensure that you keep your wristband on until after your departmental/group photography after the ceremony as the colour of your wristband will indicate which group you should be photographed with.
