This article provides information about the TFL Student Oyster Card scheme.

Transport for London offer a discounted travel scheme for some students, which the University of Portsmouth is signed up to. You’ll need to create a web account with TFL before you can apply for an Oyster card. You can set up the account here.

There is a non-refundable £20 admin fee to apply for this scheme so please read this carefully to check your eligibility before applying.

You must fall into one of the following two categories to be eligible:

  • You live in the Greater London area and travel on a regular basis to the University – if you have a term time address showing on the University records system that is outside of London you will NOT be eligible to apply.
  • You are on a mandatory work placement in London that is an integral and essential part of your course and for a minimum period of 14 weeks. This will in most cases mean that if you are undertaking a placement in London in your third year (regardless of where your permanent home address is) you may be eligible. Proof of your placement will be required by the University who approves all applications.

Please ensure you thoroughly read the terms and conditions before signing up and paying your non-refundable £20 application fee, as this will not be returned to you if we decline your application.
