This article contains instructions for taking a picture (or 'screenshot') of your screen. This can be useful when you want to show someone a problem you are having.

The following instructions were produced using Windows 7 and Mac OSX Mavericks.

Microsoft Windows

Capturing your entire screen

  1. ;">Press the ‘PrtScn’ button on your keyboard.
  2. Keyboard
  3. Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories and then click ‘Paint’ to open it.

  5. Click on the ‘Paste’ clipboard icon to paste the screenshot. Here you can either keep the screenshot as it is, or crop it to show only a specific part of the screen.

  7. Click the ‘options’ drop down, hover over ‘Save As’ the select ‘JPEG Picture’
  8. Paint Save As
  9. Click on ‘Desktop’ in the top left hand corner and then name the file (e.g. error), then click ‘Save’. You will find the image on your desktop.

Capturing your entire screen

Press Command-Shift-3, an image will be saved to your desktop.
