Upgrade from version 4.0.8-4 to 4.1.5 - Monday 3rd December

On 3rd of December, a new version of the GlobalProtect VPN client will be released for Windows and Mac users. The upgrade will automatically install when you next connect to the VPN, this will take around 5 minutes. You should notice a pop-up notifying of the upgrade in progress.

Install VPN

  1. Open a web browser and go to the https://gp.vpn.port.ac.uk/global-protect/login.esp website.
  2. Login with your university username and password, e.g. bloggsj or up874068
  3. Once the file has downloaded install the software accepting the default settings.
  4. Once the software has installed, go to Finder, applications and Global Protect
  5. Click the GlobalProtect icon and the window shown below displayed. A window which has the field where the portal address is entered
  6. You will need to visit Security & Privacy settings to allow "Palo Alto Networks" before you try to connect Security & Privacy windows showing the button to allow Palo Alto Networks
  7. Once the application has been allowed
  8. Enter the following into the GlobalProtect Window then click Apply
    Portal = gp.vpn.port.ac.uk
    Username = University network account user name, e.g. bloggsj
    Password = University network account password
  9. A globe icon will appear in the notification area of the system tray when you are connected to the VPN VPN mac notification

  11. When you wish to disconnect from the VPN, right click the globe icon and click Disconnect.
  12. If after following these instructions you still cannot connect to the VPN please contact IT support.
