This article explains how to connect your iMac or Macbook to the University VPN.

 

These instructions detail how to connect to the VPN.

These instructions have been tested on a Mac running Mavericks but should work on Yosemite and show how to connect to the University VPN when off campus.

Open a web browser and go to the  https://gp.vpn.port.ac.uk/global-protect/login.esp website.

Login with your university username and password, e.g. bloggsj or up123456 via the window shown in Figure 1.

Another window will appear as shown in Figure 2. Select the appropriate down load for your operating system, e.g. Mac 32/64 bit Global Protect Agent

Once the file has downloaded install the software accepting the default settings.

Once the software has installed, go to Finder, applications and Global Protect, as shown in Figure 3.

Click the GlobalProtect icon and the window shown in Figure 4 will be displayed.

To  attach to the VPN type the following into the GlobalProtect Window:

Username = University network account user name, e.g. bloggsj

Password = University network account password

Portal = gp.vpn.port.ac.uk 

And click apply.

A globe icon will appear in the notification area of the system tray when you are connected to the VPN, as shown in Figure 5 by the globe.

When you wish to disconnect from the VPN, right click the globe icon and click Disconnect.
