The Service Desk

The Service Desk provides a single point of contact for all IT related problems and queries.

The Service Desk is available 24 hours 7 days per week. Core hours are 8.00am - 5.15pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.00am - 4.30pm on Friday. Outside of core hours, limited IT assistance is provided by our Out of Hours Team (see below).

IT Help advisors

IT Help advisors (ITHs) are situated at the support desks in our open access areas.

IT Help advisors are on hand to give you the support and advice on a wide range of IT issues, including:

  • Connecting to the University Wireless and ResNet networks
  • IS open access areas and shared teaching spaces
  • Using your University computer account
  • Email
  • Papercut printing
  • Basic virus removal guidance
  • University related IT service
  • Advice on how to obtain local discounted repairs to damaged hardware or corrupted operating systems


Term Time (not including bank holidays)
Library - 8am-12am (midnight) 7 days a week
Park, Portland, Richmond- 8am-8pm (Mon-Thurs), 8am-6pm (Friday)

Holidays (not including bank holidays)
Library - 9am-8pm (Mon-Fri), 10am-4pm (Sat-Sun), Sundays are closed in the summer
Park, Portland, Richmond - 10am-4pm (Mon-Fri)

The Student IT Helpdesk can be found in the University Library ground floor. 

Out of hours support

Outside core University hours, we offer limited IT support, via our out of hours team, available from 5.00pm - 8.00am during the week and 24 hours a day during weekends and bank holidays. Support during these times can be obtained by telephoning the normal Service Desk number above. Support provided includes:

  • Password changes
  • Moodle access
  • Portal access
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Remote file access
  • Anti-virus
