This article will inform whether you are covered by your parents’ TV Licence in your rented property.

Your parents’ TV Licence will not cover you away from home. However, there are a few but rare occasions where you could be covered if:

  • You only use a TV or device that is powered by its internal batteries;
  • You have not connected it to an aerial or plugged it into the mains to receive TV;
  • Your permanent address (outside term-time) is your parents’ home; and
  • Your parents have a valid TV Licence for their home.

If you do not meet all of these requirements, you will need to buy your own TV Licence for your student accommodation. To check whether this exception applies to you, please contact TV Licensing on +44 (0)300 790 6090.
