This article will explain what is in a halls of residence kitchen and information on cooking equipment that should be brought by the student.

Each student is given a cupboard to store food. Students need to bring crockery, cutlery, cooking pans, tea towels and washing up equipment. You will have to share the refrigerator with other students, but will usually have your own or part of a shelf for your fresh items. Each kitchen is provided with a dining area and students are responsible for cleaning their own kitchens.

You may wish to contact your flatmates via our Facebook groups before you arrive to see who is bringing what, so you don’t double up on equipment such as kettles and toasters etc. These items must be Portable Appliance Tested before use.

Bateson Hall and Harry Law Hall

Residents have the use of a shared kitchen facility with oven, cooker hob, microwave, fridge/freezer storage, sink unit and sufficient cupboards for storage of food and equipment. Students need to bring plates/dishes/cups etc, plus cutlery, cooking pans and utensils. It would also be useful to include a couple of tea towels and hand towels. The flat is supplied with a mop and bucket and its own vacuum cleaner.

Each kitchen is provided with a dining area and students are responsible for cleaning their own kitchens. Kitchens should be left clean after use and dining utensils should be cleared to enable other students to use the facility if they wish.
