This article contains information about the Alumni Scholarship.
What is the alumni scholarship?
The alumni scholarship is a 20% discount that certain students are entitled to (both the student and their course must be eligible). This will be deducted from their course tuition fees.
How do I know if I am eligible?
To be eligible you must:
* To find out if your company is a qualifying SME company, please visit the ‘Sponsor paying my tuition fees – what I need to know’ article.
The alumni scholarship does not apply to students undertaking courses that are equivalent to or lower than qualifications already achieved. This is because students are not progressing to a higher level qualification.
The course you are taking must also be eligible. Please see below for details.
How do I know if my course is eligible?
To find out if your course is eligible, you can use our alumni course checker. The alumni scholarship excludes courses leading to PGCE or Master of Architecture qualifications and does not apply to courses of four year full-time study leading to MEng, MPharm or similar qualifications.
You must also be eligible yourself. Please see above for details.
I took my original degree when the University was a Polytechnic, can I still have the scholarship?
Yes, if you meet the above criteria and your current course is eligible, your qualification will be counted, no matter how many years have passed since you gained the qualification. This includes any qualifications gained whilst we were Portsmouth Polytechnic.
How do I get my scholarship?
If you are eligible for the alumni scholarship you will automatically be given the 20% scholarship off of your tuition fees. This reduction should be seen on your tuition fee invoice. If you believe you are eligible but the scholarship is not showing on your invoice, please contact the Student Administration Team about this by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning +44 (0)23 9284 5259 and we can investigate.
If I get the alumni scholarship, can I still get the 2% prompt payment discount when I pay in full?
Yes, if you are receiving the alumni scholarship, but are also eligible for a 2% prompt payment discount, due to paying your reduced amount in full, before or on your invoice due date, you will still receive the 2% reduction.
Once your tuition fees have been reduced by 20%, the 2% discount can be deducted from the reduced fee.
For details about which discounts can be received together and any restrictions, please view the ‘Tuition Fee Discounts’ document which can be found at the ‘Where can I find tuition fee policies and procedures?’ article.
