This page contains guidance on the best way to clean to help ensure that you do not incur any cleaning charges when you move out of halls of residence.
Bedroom:
- Remove all rubbish, empty bin and clean inside and out
- Ensure the floor is clean and carpet vacuumed
- Wipe down all surfaces thoroughly including desk, bookcase, wardrobes (inside, outside and top), windowsills and skirting boards
- Wipe down all furniture with a clean damp cloth
- Wipe mirror clean and leave smudge free
- Remove all personal belongings and leave room clean and empty.
En suite/shared shower room:
- Remove all rubbish, empty bin and clean inside and out
- Clean washbasin inside and out
- Clean toilet inside and out
- Clean shower tray
- Clean out soap dish
- Wipe down all tiles using a bathroom cleaner
- Wipe down all surfaces
- Mop floor
- Clean shower door/wash shower curtain.
Kitchen/lounge area:
- Remove boxes and personal belongings
- Remove all rubbish, empty bin and clean inside and out
- Empty cupboards and thoroughly clean inside and out, ensuring all grease marks are removed (especially the front of the doors)
- Wipe down all surfaces thoroughly including worktops, coffee table, all furniture, skirting boards and windowsills
- Clean microwave inside and out
- Defrost the fridge and freezer and clean them inside and out
- Remove grease and clean the cooker/oven thoroughly including the grill pan, oven shelves, oven door, hob and rings (you will need to purchase a specialist oven cleaner to achieve a satisfactory result)
- Wipe down the breakfast bar and bar stools
- Vacuum lounge furniture to remove any fluff and then wipe down with a clean damp cloth
- Vacuum the floor
- Mop the floor in the kitchen area.
Returning keys:
All keys must be returned to reception staff by the end of your contract or you will be charged the cost of replacing the lock.
