This article will inform you on the visa requirements in relation to Postgraduate Research Students (PGRS) studying for research degrees such as a PhD, MPhil, MD and Professional Doctorate.

The University has a Student Attendance and Engagement Policy which is applicable for international PGRS undertaking their research at Portsmouth with a Tier 4 visa.

The Policy covers: Attendance and monitoring, attendance registration, admin contacts within your Faculty, Tier 4 visa advice as well as information on the Tier 4 student agreement.

It is important that a letter of authorised absence is obtained by international PGRS prior to undertaking any research activity outside the UK.

International PGRS who have an interruption of studies approved are expected to return immediately to their home country.

Contact the International Advisers in the International Office (international.office@port.ac.uk) or International Admissions, Academic Registry (international.admissions@port.ac.uk) for advice relating to queries regarding your visa, required documentation and UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) requirements.
