This article provides instruction regarding what you should do if you were the victim of a crime.

If you become the victim of a crime, it is very important that you report it to the police or University Security and Surveillance immediately or as soon as possible.

To contact the police in Portsmouth:

  • Dial 101 to report all non-emergency crime and incidents such as vandalism, abandoned vehicles and anti-social behaviour, or you can use it for general enquiries
  • In an emergency phone 999

Police can then take immediate steps to apprehend the offender. If you wait, valuable evidence will be lost.

You can also call University Security on 84 3333 from halls or +44(0)23 9284 3333 from an outside line.

Speak UP Step UP Campaign

The Speak UP Step UP Campaign builds upon the culture of dignity and respect that we always strive to uphold at the University of Portsmouth. The campaign is supported by University of Portsmouth Students’ Union.

The campaign encourages students to recognise that they have an active role to play in promoting and maintaining a culture of dignity and respect. There are three connecting issues being addressed by the campaign:

  • Bullying and harassment
  • Sexual violence and sexual consent
  • Hate crime.

The University is committed to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The Speak UP form is an anonymous tool to record any incident or situation that falls short of this aim so the University is made aware of the experiences of students.
