This article will explain about the International Alumni Referral Award (IARA).

This scheme is for current and former University of Portsmouth students who refer an applicant to study here. We will reward you with £400 if their application results in a registration.

How does the scheme work?

You should complete the International Alumni Referral Award (IARA) Form below and ensure it is attached to the application when you apply online. Please select IARA from the agent drop-down menu and attach a copy of the completed IARA Form.

Please note: we cannot link the application to you after we have received the application and it has been input into the University's Admissions System.

When submitting your application online please attach a copy of the IARA Form uploading your supporting documents. The Global Office will then process it.

Once applied

If your friend's application is successful and they register at the University in September, you will need to contact us from November to process your referral award payment. Your payment will be made in January, assuming that your friend is still registered with the University. If an applicant is referred by more than one alumnus or contracted representative of the University, the first referral received will be the one rewarded if the applicant registers.

I have not graduated yet, can I take part in this scheme?

Yes you can. Although the scheme is aimed at our alumni (hence the name of the award!), we appreciate that current students are also in a position to spread the good word about the University. As long as you have no outstanding fees to pay the University (tuition fees, accommodation fees, library fines) we welcome your participation.

What type of applicants can I claim the IARA for?

You can only claim the referral award for:

  • Those applying direct to the University of Portsmouth (UCAS applicants are not eligible)
  • Newly recruited applicants (students who have previously studied at the University of Portsmouth, or on any franchised or distance learning courses overseas, or at an institution that has an articulation agreement with the University of Portsmouth are not eligible)
  • 'International' status applicants (applicants classified as UK home or Exchange Students are not eligible. If you are referring an EU applicant you may be eligible for the EU Referral Award)
  • Students registered on a programme lasting one academic year or longer (students attending one semester or a Pre-Sessional English course are not eligible).
