This article will provide you with the opportunities and advice for international students settling into the UK.

We realise that, whilst moving to another country is an exciting opportunity, it can sometimes take a bit of time to adjust to your new surroundings and make friends.

Recognising the difficulties that some students may face we provide a number of social opportunities for new students to make friends and gain confidence as well advice to help settle in.

Making friends

Soon after you arrive a great way to meet new people and socialise is to attend the Students’ Union Freshers’ Fayre and sign up to some of the sports and cultural societies on offer. Joining a society is a great way to meet like-minded people and socialise over a common hobby.

As well as joining societies, the International Office organises a number of coach trips and cultural events throughout the year.

  • Mix and Match

Mix and Match is a social networking scheme organised by the International Office to help new and current students from all over the world to socialise and discuss anything from course lectures to British life. More information on Mix and Match is available here.
