Why we have a process
The reason we have a process for enabling bulk mail is due to Google mail sending limits. While sufficient for most things, these are daily and hourly limits on accounts that are in place to prevent scam email campaigns through their service.
Our process uses Outlook as it allows us to specify our own infrastructure for outgoing mail instead of google, and therefore we have control over the sending limits. Though this can be done with other email clients, Outlook is already available to everyone on a Windows machine and is familiar to a high proportion of MS Office users.
Requesting bulk mail
You can request that any email account be set up for bulk mail via the Bulk Mail Request form. If you are requesting this for a shared mailbox, we will expect you to already have delegated access as given by the account owner.
After the networks team have set up your access, Service Improvement will request you begin a remote support session so they can configure Outlook for the account specified.
