This article provides information regarding the Institution-Wide Language Programme (IWLP) and an information video.

The Institution-Wide Language Programme (IWLP) offers you a chance to learn a language as part of your degree. The programme offer accredited courses under the Common European Framework for Languages. They take one teaching year to complete and count for twenty credits.

It is a great way to enhance employability and job prospects.

The language options are:

  • French
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • German
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Arabic
  • British Sign Language

With the exception of Japanese there are (dependent on student numbers) beginner and advanced grades available. Japanese is only taught at beginner grade. This means that courses are suitable for those with experience of the language and total beginners.

There are two methods of being certificated:

  1. Take a language for interest in your 1st year and continue as a credit option in your 2nd year
  2. Take a language as a credit option in your 2nd year and continue for interest in your third year.
