This article will give you information on contracts in halls of residence.

 

Start and end dates

  • For University owned and managed contracts, you sign your contract via the Student Home Portal where you will see the start and end date of your contract.
  • For Unite contracts, please see your Unite Students Portal for start and end dates.
  • For Yugo contracts, please see your Yugo Portal for start and end dates.

 

Contract length – University halls of residence

  • Your contract will generally be for 40 weeks and if you move out before the end of your contract, you will have to continue to pay for the room.
  • Rooms in our halls of residence (managed by the University of Portsmouth) are offered for either one semester or 40 weeks depending on the length of your course.
  • If you are studying for a full academic year, you will be allocated for 40 weeks; if you are studying for one semester, you will be allocated for one semester.
  • University of Portsmouth-managed halls do not ask students to provide details of a guarantor.

 

Contracts for Unite Students buildings (Greetham Street, Margaret Rule, Trafalgar and Rosalind Franklin halls) OR Yugo building (Catherine House)

  • If you have been allocated to a Unite Students or Yugo building, your contract would be for a 40 weeks period only and under general conditions you will be liable for paying for your room until the end of the agreed period with the appropriate accommodation provider.
  • Unite Students will ask all students to provide details of a guarantor to pay your accommodation fees in instalments. The guarantor will not be credit checked and can be a parent, friend or colleague and does not have to be UK based.
  • Yugo will ask all students for a guarantor and they must UK-based.
  • If you do not want to or cannot provide details of a guarantor, please contact Student Housing to discuss this further.
  • The University of Portsmouth will advise you on which accommodation you have been offered and the next steps to accept and secure the booking.
  • If you are allocated to a Unite Students building your contract will be directly with Unite Students.
  • If you are allocated to Catherine House, your contract will be directly with Yugo.
  • As per the contracts, Unite Students or Yugo will email you directly with their Terms and Conditions, which you need to accept online.
